We need your involvement in order to run the races!  Alpine ski races are organized and staffed by volunteers. Even the simplest race requires a team consisting of at least thirty people, while larger events can easily involve staff of hundred or more. In order to run the regional racing program we ask that each family commits to work at least one race day per season per athlete. We also ask that at least one family member obtains Level 1 officials certification

Certification: In order to become Certified Level 1 race official one has to complete a three hour course. The course is free of charge for our members. Please check the schedule for dates. You will be able to enroll while registering for the program or - alternatively - you may contact our Officials Chair or our Program Director. Level one certification is sufficient to perform most non-managerial tasks at the local races.

Registration: If you plan to work more than two races during the season you will need to register as Official with Alpine Ontario. Terry McLauglin or Jane McIntyre can advise you on the registration procedures.

If you would like to get involved The Alpine Canada officials' website has a wealth of information about the program, course materials and officiating opportunities.  The table below list available certifications and available requirements. Our website will list level II and III officials' courses as they become available.

Maintaining your level II or level III certification If you already have a certification, in addition to the hands-on experience, you need to attend a periodic update session. In our region you will fulfill update requirement by attending "All Hands" meeting.  Please check the schedule for dates.

Officials Job Descriptions Alpine Canada has a very helpful document on their website - titled:
Official's Program - Job Descriptions and More Information. This is a It is a very thorough document with a great deal of very helpful information for any position on the race hill. The radio protocol is especially helpful.

The FIS - International Competition Rules (ICR) 2008 is found on the FIS website in
PDF form. This document has been know in the past as the "Blue Book". It is the rule book for alpine skiing - there is not as much information on each role on the race course - although there is some - it is an excellent resource for rules and especially for those that will be part of the race jury.

Contact If you would like more information please contact  Jane McIntyre - CFSC/ASM Officials Chair, Brad Lashley - our Program Director  Terry McLauglin - NCD Officials Chair

Did you know that both Brad Lashley our program director and John Hanna member of the Alpine Committee are both Level IV officials and FIS Technical Delegates.  Therefore if you have any questions regarding absolutely anything regarding ski racing - ask Brad or John and they will certainly come with the right answer!
